How Grassroots Giving was born

Grassroots Giving began as our way of celebrating Skipton Building Society's 160th anniversary in 2013. As a building society, we originated as a kind of club aimed at enabling people to own their own homes. We’ve been a part of our local communities ever since we first opened our doors and really value this.

We are proud of this rich heritage and now look forward to our next century-and-a-half. A lot has changed over the years and here you can share some of our history. Have a wander down memory lane with some of these old pics and our 160 year timeline.

As part of our 160th Anniversary we launched our Grassroots Giving Appeal, offering 160 x £500 to community organisations nationwide. We’ve always supported our local communities and are proud to have worked with some amazing organisations.
